SPEEDZONE’S CARNIVAL ON THE HILL – A SUCCESS “Heart-warming turnout at the Hills View Home for the Aged”

ST. JOHN’S – 28TH JULY, 2010 – The first ever “Carnival on the Hill” was presented on the grounds of the Hills View Home for the Aged on Wednesday, 28th July by the popular SpeedZone Track & Field Club as part of its list of community activities scheduled for the rest of the calendar year.
The main objective of this inaugural initiative was to bring a taste of the many aspects of Spice Mas to the residents of the Home, which was quite successful.
The event comprised of a Costume Park, showcasing a number of traditional and fancy mas costumes; Steelband Music by Pan Ocessia – a new pan band in Gouyave; a parade of excerpts of mas bands from St. John’s; and live performances by a number of artistes including Mr. Killa, Maximillion, Mr. Razor, Kennedy Mapp, Earthquake, Prince, Scremaing Crane and Snakey Boy, Shatta Ricky and Apawah.
The Parliamentary Representative for the constituency of St. John’s also used the opportunity to donate a number of wheelchairs to the Home, and spent the entire evening with the residents and spectators.
A number of businesses also supported this initiative including Waggy T Rentals & Sound Company, J & A Supermarket, Top Sound Killa and Blueprint Communications Grenada.
Based on the feedback obtained from the residents and caretakers, the sponsors, participants and the audience, SpeedZone made the decision to host “Carnival on the Hill” every year, and to add “Parang on the Hill” as the next community event involving the Home later this year.
